Finger

Just went into Lilly's room to wake her for her last feeding before bed and she was sucking her finger! Same one as C sucks :) Way to go Lilly! Broke my heart to have to wake her. If I didn't though, our whole night would be screwed.

Can you milk her now?

When Colvin is done holding Lilly and wants me to take her, she asks me if I can milk Lilly.

Colvin always wants pictures

Not only does Colvin want to hold baby Lilly every chance she gets, but she wants me to take pictures to document this momentous occasion.

Lunch Date

Uncle T takes time out of his busy lunch schedule to meet his new niece.

More pictures.

The kids adore her

The kids adore Lilly. Colvin didn't want to put her down. Ryan told
her he loves her without us having to prompt him.

First picture

Here is her first of MANY pictures. Please excuse the blue hat. The
other ones got dirty since we put them on when she just came out.

It's a girl!

Lilian Elizabeth was born at 1:22pm on January 10 (same birthdate as
my aunt Katy). She was a tough one to get out but what a treasure she
is!

No height or weight yet. She is a good size - a lot bigger than Ryan.
She has black hair just like the other 2 did. She might have a
simple on her left cheek. Hard to tell right now. It took her a couple
tries to eat but she is feeding well now. Very peaceful.

The umbilical cord hasn't been cut yet. The placenta is out though but
still attached. We are trying to suck every last ounce of goodness out
of that cord.

Sharis is doing REALLY well now that Lilly is out. She is eating
herself and feeding Lilly at he same time. She is very comfortable in
her own bed. She is really doing well.

Welcome Lilly Elizabeth.

Near the end

We should be getting near the end. Sharis ' surges are getting really
intense. She is working so hard. She is back in the tub.

Doula Goody Bag

We didn't get a doula for this birth like we did with the other kids
because of all the midwives. But sharis' cousin Jonna is a doula and
she came over. In her doula goody bag she brought honey sticks,
peppermint essential oils ( which really helped sharis), a TENS
machine and his rebozo technique for moving the baby during surges.
The TENS machine worked well during surges and replaced the tub for a
while.

No kids!

No kids mean our little munchkins aren't around to bother mama (thanks
to my Mom taking them to her house - thank you). But that also means
the new one isn't here yet. Sharis' demeanor is good. She is pretty
exhausted but resting - and it is quiet without those other little
rascals.

Rest and Food

Her chiropractor came and adjusted Sharis. She said Sharis' hip was
really tight and affected the position of the cervix. Things should be
better. We are trying to get her some rest and food so she can take
another run at it. Poor sharis though has been having surges the whole
time.

Slanted

Well, the baby isn't quite positioned correctly. He/she is coming out
on a slant. The cervix is off to the side - almost in Sharis' groin.
So all the work she has been doing is to get the baby positioned
correctly. We need to get the cervix back in a more vertical position
so we can have gravity work with us. We are having our chiropractor
come over to help. The midwives have left as there is still a lot of
work to do.

I just realized I used "we" a lot. Let's be perfectly clear. Sharis is
doing ALL the work. She is doing amazing. You can barely tell when she
is having a surge.

Getting Wet

She entered the tub at about 3:15am. That is when Kim arrived as well. Tracy arrived shortly after Kim and Jane shortly after that.

Tub

Here is where it will all happen.

Called the Cavalry

Sharis was able to sleep from about 9 to midnight or so. She has been
up and working hard since then. Her surges are still pretty
inconsistent but are gradually getting shorter in frequency.

She wants to get in the tub but the midwives want to be here when she
does since it can speed things up. We talked to the midwives and they
are on their way over.

Shut eye

We are going to try and get a little rest. Contractions are still
sporadic. Probably 4 per hour or so.

January Weather

I had to document today's weather because if I don't, we will never
believe it when we look back on this day. Our little one most likely
won't be born today but still ... 48?! ... In January?! ... With NO
SNOW ON THE GROUND?!

I also want to document this for Sharis so I can remind her how
beautiful Minnesota winters are ... Or at least can be. This winter
was custom made (and ordered) for a pregnant Sharis. She loves it!

Afternoon Status

Sharis ran around dropping Ryan off at school (after we hought we were
going to keep him home so he could experience the birth) and going to
a scheduled midwife appointment. She started having contractions
again at about 10:30am. And of course, being the all star she is, she
just took it in stride. She was glad to be home though.

After a nap, not much has changed - a contraction here or there but
nothing consistent yet. It might be a long night.

Call off the Dogs

Sharis hasn't had a contraction in over an hour. Everything just
stopped. She has been instructed by the midwives to go a out her day.
We disrupted a couple of people's lives. Sorry to those who cancelled
plans.

And it Starts

Sharis woke me up at about 2:30 last night letting me know things were
starting. She had had about 6 contractions over the past hour. I got
up and put the tub together and started filling it. She called the
midwives and let them know our status. They aren't here yet but they
have been kept up to date.

Sharis was hungry so I made her a ribs and spinach scramble and some toast.

We eventually tried to go back to sleep at about 4:30am. Amazingly she
fell back to sleep.

We will try and update the blog throughout the process to keep people
informed as well as document the event.

I am sure she would love to hear from people so if you are lurking,
let us know.
