Happy Birthday to the Love of My Life

IMG_3348

A year ago today we were having a nice picnic in Lincoln Park eating watermelon waiting for Colvin to come. About 3 hours after the end of Sharis' Birthday, she came. It was a hectic Birthday for Sharis but one that we will never forget.

Happy Birthday Sharis.

Big Milestones

Colvin stood on her own during music class today for the first time. She stood for several seconds before gracefully and easily squatting to sit.

I asked Ryan before his nap today if he sucks his thumb anymore (Dan and I had noticed a couple nights ago that he didn't seem to be). He said, "No, because I'm getting to be a big boy and big boys don't suck their thumb." So I guess that habit is broken!
Side note: He cut his "sucking" thumb last week on Dan's razor and wasn't able to suck it all week, which forced him to give it up.
Side note #2: Last week was a rough one!

Beet and Strawberry Smoothie

A portion of tonight's dinner was a big hit with the kids - strawberry and beet smoothie. Who'd a thunk it could be so good?

It's True!

I know none of you will believe me, but Colvin went poop on the potty today!! That's right. The girl is going to be potty trained before she walks. She's always so interested in it b/c she sees her big bro on it so this morning when she crawled up to it I decided to sit her on it. She actually knew what to do! After she went a little, she did the sign for "all done". I thought she would go more in her diaper after I took her off, but she didn't. I'm still in disbelief.

Did you know?

Fingers don't taste very good to a thumb sucker. Who knew?!

Milk

Colvin hasn't taken to sign language quite like Ryan did. (Although, it's probably my fault b/c I'm more lackadaisical about teaching it to her.)
She is finally doing the sign for milk (her own rendition) and it looks more like she's trying to snap her fingers. She always gives me a double sign (both hands) to let me know she means business. For quite some time she has actually been "saying" milk (mo mo) and I think she finally figured that it would make us happier if she would just do the sign thing.

Yesterday, we were at the library for story hour and another boy who was a bit younger was making random sounds (one of them being "mo mo"). She whipped her head around so fast to look at me that I thought she was going to strain her neck. Then when she was facing me completely, she busted out with her double snap. The power of suggestion...

Independence

Lately Ryan has been telling me that he will put himself to bed for naps...and HE DOES!
