Speaking of losing my mind

So a little background here...

I have ALWAYS been a cold person. Dan is notoriously warmer than I am, by about 5 layers of clothing. Well, leave it to pregnancy and the hormones that go along with it to change all of that.

Summer has brought with it more discomfort for me. I am much too hot outside and always running the air inside. In fact, my yoga instructor needed to put on a parka of sorts last week during class b/c all of us preggos were comfortable with the air on FULL BLAST while she was FREEZING.

Anyway, we came home tonight from an appointment and Dan found our bedroom window wide open, with our AC going full blast. I typically would NEVER be so wasteful, but I had opened the window to get something from outside and COMPLETELY forgot to close it again. How stupid! I hope I don't stay this way-talk about blond and ditsy!!

Squished

So you may look at this title and think I'm talking about the baby in the womb...but I'm actually talking about me and my midsection! From all the stretching and various new positions I've felt lately, I think the baby is quite cozy in there actually. But as for me, I am feeling like he'd better start pushing the tummy outward! I can't eat very much at a time anymore because there just isn't any room down there. It's quite the dichotomous situation as I am still hungry when I finish and am ALWAYS very thirsty for more water, but feel as if I can't fit another thing into myself!!

I've now started to feel the baby's kicks as far as my sides-towards my back. Crazy how large the uterus can stretch!! AND, he's getting much stronger as he should be about 4 pounds and 17 inches by now. I do feel like his growth size has slowed a bit though b/c we just had an appt yesterday and I am measuring 31 cm (where I should be 32, as I am 32 weeks-pretty cool how that works, huh?!). BP is still solid at 100/60 and my weight gain has surely slowed since first trimester when I was PACKING ON THE POUNDS! Dan was hoping that I would pass him up, but the prospect of that is looking bleak. I'm only at...JK...did you think I would ACTUALLY put my weight on here for all the world to know? I do feel like I'm losing my mind (read: placenta brain) a bit with this pregnancy, but I'm not that far gone yet! What woman do you know that broadcasts her REAL weight for the world ; )

Updates Coming

We have been a little lazy about posting to the blog. I would like to apologize to our 2 readers (Kerry and Marla). Updates are coming though. We have some pictures and some things to share ... we just can't do it tonight. BOTH sets of grandparents were in town this weekend ... and we are pooped. We can't even handle the grandparents, how are we going to handle a baby?

Active like Dad

For any of you who don't know...Dan has this thing where he constantly bounces his leg. He is always moving and fidgeting. I think his child is like him because this little one doesn't stop! The most noticeable times are when I am calm or trying to be reflective-like in mass or at yoga.

Actually, I've started to feel bad for the little one. The baby must be pretty squished b/c he/she is constantly kicking me in the rib. I think I know his/her favorite position though: the baby always seems to be kicking me in the right rib; his/her butt is even with my belly button, but to the left side of it; and then head and arms are way down in the pelvic area. At supposedly 3 pounds and about 15.5 inches I can't imagine how tight it's getting in there. Plus, everyone keeps telling me I look small, so maybe all the activity that this little guy is doing is just an attempt to stretch out mom's belly a little more to make some room!

Notre Dame Windstorm

Apparently a big windstorm hit Notre Dame yesterday. The winds were so bad that they damaged the Basilica. The wind blew one of the spires right off. Here is a video my buddy Drew sent me on YouTube:

Second Wedding Anniversary

Yesterday was our Second Wedding Anniversary - already! The time really has flown. It seems like yesterday we were trying to figure out how deal with the electricity going out in the hotel where all of our guests were staying.

To celebrate, we ordered our favorite pizza (ground beef, mushroom and green pepper) from Bacino's - which is just downstairs from our apartment. We grabbed some blankets and some water and headed over to the park for a fantastic meal. The weather was gorgeous and plenty of people were out so we could do some people watching.

Mother's Day

A Happy Mother's Day to all those mothers out there - and especially our own two mothers. You rarely get enough credit for all that you do. One day to celebrate doesn't seem like enough.

Sharis and I would like to thank our mothers for all they have done for us. We are so fortunate to have been brought up the way we have. Sharis has been shown a wonderful model of how to be a mother from these two. And now Sharis is embarking on her own Motherly journey. She won't get a thank-you this year from our little one but the appreciation will start soon after (it better - or she is going to get a talking to).

Minnesota Baby Shower

Sharis at Minnesota Baby Shower
Originally uploaded by flowmug.
We were in Minnesota last weekend for yet another baby shower - thank you again for all those who have organized and attended all the baby showers. My sister was very generous in organizing this one and had a little help from my Mom, Auntie Trish, my cousin Katie and Carol Culp (a good friend of my Mom's). Thank you all.

I didn't actually attend the shower (thankfully couple baby showers haven't caught on yet - couple wedding showers are all I can handle) so we can all thank Sharis and Carol Culp for the photos. I was able to play golf that day with my Brother, my Dad and Mike Bireley (who's wife, baby and mother-in-law can be seen in the pictures if you click the accompanying picture and check out the Flickr site). We had to sit in the clubhouse and drink beers for about an hour as a storm passed. But we ended up getting in 18.

No Gestational Diabetes!!!!

Dan and I are so excited. After all of that testing we found out yesterday (and they called again today) that I don't have GD!! This is extremely good news and we are very relieved. Thanks for all of the support, concern, and prayers from everyone. Now where are those Mochi balls...

Blogging at ya from the Dr office

Unfortunately I tested high for glucose last week during my doctor's appointment. Count was supposed to be below 140 and I was 142. So now I'm at the office again doing a 3 hour test to determine if I actually have gestational diabetes. Hopefully all will go well. Meanwhile though, the test isn't the most fun thing ever. I had to fast since last night and come in to get my blood drawn at 9am (actual time drawn was 9:22). Then I drink THE sugary drink again and wait. They take my blood every hour for three hours.
How many times is that total? ...4
How many arms do I have? ...2
So I get to get stuck in the same spot twice on each arm. Lovely. Not to mention that I still have a bruise from where I got blood drawn last week when they did the test. For anyone who doesn't know (or remember) my major issues with getting blood drawn, I'll have to tell you sometime. Oh, and for anyone who's been keeping up with the math, that means I won't get to eat today until 12:30! Like I said, not my idea of a good time. But there are definitely worse things. My sarcasm is more tongue and cheek than anything else. ANYTHING is worth it for my little one. In truth, it's not that bad. I'm only one blood draw away from the end and it went better than I thought it would. I'm less starving than I anticipated...so that's good. I just hope the little guy/gal is ok with the lack of nutrition. I suppose it must be ok for him/her otherwise they wouldn't have me do it. Lot's of movement though from the little one all morning. I feel like he/she is saying, "Mommy, FEED ME!"
