It has been over a week since our last post. Sorry for the dry spell. I have quite a few excuses if you want to hear them:
1 - It is very difficult to get over the fact that we showed the world how our son poops.
2 - It is very difficult to get over those moves Sharis calls dancing. And that song, can anyone get it out of their head?
3 - This is a Mother's Day post and I am usually a day or two late for most Birthdays, Anniversaries and Holidays so why should this one be any different?
4 - Everyone does posts ON Mother's Day. I wanted ours to stand out from the crowd.
5 - We have been swamped here with Little Man, 3 of Sharis' most important holidays of the year over 4 days (Birthday - 30th no less, Anniversary and Mother's Day) and starting a new business.
We had quite an enjoyable holiday even though it was without both of our Mothers. Sharis wanted to go hiking on Saturday so we found some trails about 40 minutes outside the city where there were actually a couple trees and some undulation to the landscape. We spent about an hour and half walking a little over four and a half miles. Ryan loved the long walk even though I carried him the whole way. He had his first encounter with horses and was mesmerized by every horse dropping on the trail.
On Sunday, I brought her flowers, the paper, a coffee and a breakfast sandwich from one of our favorite spots. Ryan and I can't really do the breakfast in bed thing for her yet. He's a little too young to help me cook eggs (trust me, I need the help). After Mass we went to brunch at a place where Moms' meals were free. Unfortunately, it took about a half an hour for anyone to even come to our table and it was all downhill from there. Drinks were slow, it took forever to take our order, they took their sweet time with our meals and then we couldn't even find our server to get the check because we never had a server focused on us. The good part was that we only ordered one meal because we were both a little full from the breakfast sandwiches and it was free because of the Mom deal. So we ate for free. Aaaand, we had a lovely time as a family.
That night we ordered in because Sharis shouldn't cook on Mother's Day and it was a better meal than if I had prepared it.
Thank you to all you Mothers out there for all the hard, unappreciated work you do. If anyone has time, I would like to remind everyone of a story that Sharis' sister Marla put on her blog a number of months back. It is one of my favorite stories about Mothers.
The one word I would use to describe Mothers is selfless. It is impossible to be a good Mother without being selfless. And I am very thankful that I have 2 VERY selfless women in my life - my Wife and my Mother.
