Thumb

Ryan has been an intense thumb sucker since he was about 4 months. Just last week I decided that it was time to start weening him of this and so we had a talk about only sucking his thumb when he is in bed. It has worked amazingly! He is such a great kid, and that helps tremendously. But I've also had to be a bit strong and committed to my decision b/c he will ask me if he can suck it and I know it's a moment that he could really use the comfort, but I still say no. It breaks my heart. He helps keep me strong though by taking it like a champ.

Before Bed

We were all playing before bedtime tonight and Dan told Ryan he had 1 more minute until it was time to clean up (he does well with prep). Ryan said, "Yes. Ho k Daddy. Thank you." And gave a big emphatic head nod. So cute. So sweet. I wish I could bottle this age and cork it in the teenage years to enjoy.

That's right Ry Ry

Ryan is upstairs right now in bed having a conversation. I couldn't quite make out on the monitor what he was saying so I sneaked into his room a bit to listen. He was telling elephant all about his day. He told him he went to the Rec center and played and that maybe he will get to go tomorrow (though we've told him about 10 times that he is going to Sesame Street on ice tomorrow, still at the age where he can't imagine what future events will be like). Then I heard him say, "That's right elephant. That's right Ry Ry (as if elephant was answering)." Seriously, does it get any better?!

9 Stitches

Sharis had to have 9 stitches last night after she cut her finger while pitting an avocado. She really is a tough cookie as she handled the whole thing VERY well (even when the Novocain didn't properly work during the stitches).

Interestingly enough, her mother did the same thing last summer while we were visiting them in Cleveland. Paula's stitches are in second picture of this post.
